Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
making the most of the time, because the days are evil. (Eph. 5:15-16, ESV)

Studies the Letter of Paul to the Romans  - Fall, 2005

"Romans in 10 sermons?  Get serious!"  Believe me, I completely understand that thought.  I have known several ministers who have devoted years to the study of the book of Romans.  Commentaries on the book aren't usually found in single volumes.  And no other book in the Bible truly deserves involved, extended study.

The problem I have observed is that in much of the evangelical world today, not only is the book of Romans virtually ignored but so are the precious, foundational doctrines that are spelled out so very clearly and explicitly there.  As a result, many Christians today are virtually ignorant of these foundational principles.  They are considered tedious "add-ons" to the "simple gospel" by theologians down through history who have nothing else to do but make trouble for the church at large.  Ministers tell their people they want to put aside such "man-made complications" and focus, instead, on the things which "bring us together".  But this is no less than the intentional creation of "another gospel".  Paul was used of God to give us the bulk of the New Testament and the book of Romans is his richest book.  This is not stuff later theologians have "added on", this is the Word of God itself.  Modern-day Christians must be reintroduced to this book, many for the first time.

So I present these sermons as no more than an "introduction" to the book of Romans.  If you have never read or studied the book,  I invite you to this very quick survey.  Let it challenge you to grapple with the things to which the Apostle Paul dedicated his ministry to teach and preach and, eventually, to give his life.  This is the foundation to true Christianity.
